Students are in their final weeks of the Fall 2008 semester and stresses are high with project presentations due and final exams. Never-the-less, the CSI student affiliate along with the IIDA student affiliate combined to pull off a very successful Trades and Trends event. Vendor turn out was larger than ever with 24 table top displays. About half of these were new vendors that had not previously been involved with CSI and CSI events. A special thanks is extended to Drake Young (CSI-S Vice - president of community) and Katie Webb (IIDA student affiliate VP). As always, the contribution from CSI and IIDA student volunteers made the organization, transportation of materials, set up and disassembly a smooth, experience for our much appreciated vendors. We’re glad to say that the event was profitable for both organizations. Well done and thank you all.
The holiday season is upon us and I think I can safely speak for all when I say we need a break to assimilate all the new information in our minds, eat regularly scheduled meals, get more sleep and reacquaint ourselves with our families. We have much to do next semester and I expect to see rejuvenated faces in January. Our plans for the next four months include two training seminars designed specifically for students, the Gulf States Region Conference, the annual Products Display Show and booth, the PDS poster contest, student affiliate meetings held at professional offices to extend the context of our understanding of the architecture and design profession, and some entertaining events such as scavenger hunts, Christmas ornament contests and I would like to organize a group outing to a Tiger basketball game, print new 50th anniversary student t-shirts, and more. We have a good group of officers, Hope, Fabian, Drake, Colby and myself and a dedicated membership composed of several new members and members with up to 5 years of service to CSI-S. Up to this point we have done very well with our student expenses with a net increase of over $600.00 (proceeds from T&T) to our initial funding and have added at least six new members. We intend and endeavor to keep up the momentum and again represent the Memphis chapter at the Indianapolis National Convention as the most involved student body. We have set a high standard among CSI student affiliates across the nation and invite any to try and exceed our commitment. That’s all for now. A safe and happy holiday is extended to all !
Thanx, Mark. |
